Fayetteville Shelter Offers Free Cats Friday

The second annual Free Cat Friday is descending on Fayetteville on Friday. The goal of this promotion is to empty cages and make loving matches between residents and shelter cats and kittens.

“It is definitely our busiest time at the Shelter right now, especially for cats” says Justine Middleton, Animal Services superintendent. “Every day we are faced with the challenge of large amounts of incoming homeless pets, and we are trying to make it as easy as we can on potential adopters.”

All of the available cats and kittens will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, prior to going to their new forever home. The Shelter will open at 10 a.m. and all the cats will be available on a first come, first serve basis; therefore, Shelter staff recommend adopters get there early.

The Shelter is also encouraging people to fill out their adoption applications in advance so the staff has time to get the application approved before the event. Applications can be picked up at the Shelter, 1640 S. Armstrong Ave., in Fayetteville, or on the city’s website www.accessfayetteville.org.

Last year the shelter adopted out more than 60 cats during this special one-day event.

“We find that people want to help homeless cats, and it is very rewarding for them to be a part of a concerted effort to save lives,” Middleton said.
