Dogs Coming To Downtown For Sale

The sweltering heat of summer can sometimes swing positive. Fayetteville businesses that need to clear their shelves of summer merchandise are literally bringing in the dogs for a day of fun and bargain hunting during this year’s Dog Days of Summer Sale.

Dog Days of Summer will be Saturday at dozens of local businesses. Businesses will slash prices on summer goods and will host dogs from the Fayetteville Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of the Ozarks that need homes. The event is sponsored by the Humane Society of the Ozarks. Shoppers will be able to donate some of the money they save by donating to the HSO or the shelter at the participating businesses.

“Each store is having their own special sale. We are joining forces to create awareness about both organizations and raise funds and resources and hopefully get some dogs adopted that day,” said Amy White, owner of the women’s clothing boutique Something Urban and an HSO board member.

Businesses will host the adoptable dogs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Adoption applications can be completed at the participating shops. Each shop will have their own individual food, toy and pet supply drives in addition to donation jars for HSO and FAS.

“We will hopefully have T-shirts available for sale that day as well and of course all proceeds will benefit the shelter and the HSO,” White said.

Maps of participating businesses and more information will be available at the FAS & HSO booths at the Farmers Market.
