Thoughts On The Buffalo

The National Parks is performing an Environmental Assessment and is seeking public input for improvements along the Buffalo River. The main areas of concern are Rush and Hasty Landings, Spring Creek Trailhead and Lost Valley Trail. For details or to contribute your opinion, visit parkplanning.nps.gov/buff.

Walmart Meeting

The annual Walmart Shareholders meeting, which brings thousands of folks to NWA and fills the dorms on the UA campus, is this week. Event folks began setting up last week on the UA campus where most of the activities take place. An estimated 16,000 people are expected. The actual meeting will be at 7 a.m. Friday at Bud Walton Arena. It’s the last thing on the agenda and as always, brings in a surprise visit by the hottest stars and celebs for the shareholders. Activities for shareholders — and some for the public — are already happening.

No Furlough

Mayor Lioneld Jordan announced that the July furlough day for city employees will be canceled. After reviewing the budget, Mayor Jordan said there is not a dire need to implement the suspended day of no-work, no-pay for next month. There are three future furlough dates scheduled that will be suspended if enough revenue is collected.

TCBY Winner

The yogurt store, TCBY, held a nationwide contest to “giveaway” a franchise store. In October 2009, TCBY began gathering videos and rating who would be the best candidate for owning their own store. The winner was announced last week. Congratulations to the winner Jared and Sarah Greer from Fayetteville. To view their entry video and see one of the reasons why we will be getting a TCBY in the area, visit www.tcby.com/giveaway/contest
