New Mex

The Kruth Talks

By Amber Kruth

There is a new late-night Mexican restaurant going in at the old Railhead Saloon space off Dickson Street. Expected to open around Memorial Day weekend, “El Sancho Mexican Grill” will have a tequila bar with nearly 100 types of tequila. Although that last shot is still restricted to be before 2 a.m., the restaurant will remain open until 3 a.m. There will be live music on the weekends and free parking for lunch customers.

Trail Expansion

Although the trail won’t be lit during the wee hours, expansion of the multiuse Frisco Trail has begun. The portion of the 7.2-mile trail between Spring Street and Maple Street will connect Frisco Trail to Scull Creek Trail. The construction began May 10 and is not expected to infringe on pedestrian or street traffic for the first portion of the project.

Assess Now, Pay Later

Personal and commercial property assessments need to be done by May 31. You can assess your personal property by calling 444-1520 or by visiting the county assessor’s office in the Washington County Courthouse at 280 N. College Ave. Commercial property assessments cannot be done by phone. Once you assess, you have until October to pay your personal property taxes. Assessments made after May 31 are subject to penalty fines.

Lights, Fair And Beauty Funds

Although the initial word was that the grants budget of the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission fell short to $31,000 in available funds, the organization granted $150,000 in funding requests earlier this month. Amongst the top awardees are Lights of the Ozarks ($30,000), Washington County Fair ($25,992), Beauty and the Beast at the Walton Arts Center ($25,000), Fayetteville Half-Marathon ($18,000), Fayetteville Underground ($10,000) and Hooten’s Kickoff Classic ($10,000).
