20 Years: A Kathy Thompson Project
Local artist Kathy Thompson has become known for her mixed-media boxes that arrange treasured artifacts into dynamic and resonant compositions. Walton Arts Center commissioned Ms. Thompson to create an original project inspired by archival study, memorabilia and responses from patrons, staff and the arts community. This exhibition honors the past and celebrates the 20-year impression of Walton Arts Center on the cultural landscape of Northwest Arkansas. The decorative and lively boxes will be on display in the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery from Aug. 12 – Jan. 13.
Greenway A Go
Construction of a 3-mile multi-use trail connecting Scull Creek Trail and Lake Fayetteville will be the first announced signs of effort to complete the 36-mile Razorback Regional Greenway by the end of 2014. The new trail will extend Scull Creek to the north where it currently turns east and becomes Mud Creek Trail. It will pass under the Gregg/Wilkerson Bridge and continue north along Mud Creek.
Creating An Urban Forest
On Oct. 13, at 7 a.m., Mayor Lioneld Jordan, the City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department, and the Urban Forestry Advisory Board will be sharing FREE trees and shrubs with city residents. The 14th annual tree giveaway will be held on the Fayetteville Town Center Plaza adjacent to the Fayetteville Downtown Square. The event is held annually to bring residents a hands-on opportunity in helping grow the urban forest.
