Looking Back Before Looking Ahead

Tradition of Top 10 stories continues for 2018

It all started with Kevin Kinder, the longtime editor of What’s Up! He believed in looking back at the year just past before moving on to the year about to be. And so, although Kevin has gone over to the dark side of advertising — several years ago, in fact — he’s not forgotten. We can’t seem to get rid of the tradition of a Top 10 countdown! And so we take his name in vain this time every December.

But here’s the rub: It’s a lot more difficult to rank stories as far as their impact on the region than it used to be. With such a smorgasbord of arts and entertainment, one man’s No. 1 might be another woman’s No. 10. So this year, Jocelyn Murphy, Lara Hightower and I took the easy way out. We’re numbering the stories from 10 to 1 — but they’re just place holders, not rankings. We hope you agree that all of these 10 things will continue to affect Northwest Arkansas in 2019 — in only the best ways, of course.

10. AMP announces expansion.

9. Shiloh Museum turns 50 beautifully.

8. Music makes NWA more like Austin every minute.

7. The Momentary hires a leader.

6. Theater companies set the stage in new spaces.

More next week!
