Cosmo Hotel Changes Owners

Fayetteville Cosmopolitan Hotel is set to transfer ownership mid-September. The new owners, Dawn Properties and Bedrock Commercial Partners project a complete renovation of the building and anticipate its closure for 10 months. Ike Thrash of Dawn Properties reported that the renovations would create an entirely new experience for guests. The new hotel will be renamed and is expected to be open by the 2012 Razorback football season.

$5 shots and microchips
The Fayetteville County is supporting a pet wellness event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at 1155 W. Clydesdale Drive. All animals that are socialized can come receive rabies vaccinations, booster shots and microchips for $5 each. All animals must be on a leash or in a carrier.

Red, White & Blue Razorbacks

The University of Arkansas athletics department will integrate remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001, at the Sept. 10 game in Little Rock against New Mexico. A patriotic red, white and blue Razorback logo will be painted at midfield and attendees are asked to wear alternating white or red clothing depending on their seat location. Fans in odd-numbered sections are designated to wear white and red in even-numbered sections. Proceeds from red, white and blue Razorback logo shirts will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project. A moment of silence before the national anthem and flyover by the 189th Air Wing of the Arkansas National Guard are scheduled.

Bike Class at Junior High
Lincoln Junior High in Bentonville has added a new division to their physical education program — mountain biking. A partnership between Bentonville Public Schools Foundation and Phat Tire Bike Store has enabled the school to be outfitted with enough new mountain bikes to conduct the program.

Cheese Dip Classic postponed
The Northwest Arkansas Cheese Dip Classic and Mid-South Cheese Dip Classic have been postponed until 2012. Organizers of the event have chosen to direct focus to the Little Rock event that will take place from 1-7:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Stadium on Sept. 24. Vote for elementary school
Sonora Elementary in Springdale is a top applicant in Parenting’s magazine for the Mom Congress School Transformation Grant contest. The school with the most votes will be awarded a $20,000 educational grant. Readers can vote at parenting.com/mom-congress/contest.

Lake map and water management
Beaver Water District has partnered with Audubon Arkansas to publish a Beaver Lake Watershed Lakeside Map. The map features the lake on one side and information about best management practices on the other side and is free to the public while supplies last.
