UA To Give Four Honorary Degrees

Four will get honorary degrees at the University of Arkansas commencement Saturday, May 14.

• The Dalai Lama will get a Doctor of Human Letters degree, although he won’t be at the commencement ceremony. He will speak at the UA on May 11.

Lewis Epley Jr. will get a Doctor of Laws degree

Christopher Mercer will get a Doctor of Laws degree. He was one of the first six black students to enroll in UA Law School. He worked with Daisy Bates during the integration of Little Rock Central High School and helped transport the “Little Rock Nine” to and from school their first semester.

B. Alan Sugg will get a Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Sugg is the retiring president of the University of Arkansas System.
