Memorial Success For Bruce

The efforts to remember Bruce Walker after his untimely death following a fire at his Flying Possum Leather shop have met with success.

A memorial event at George’s Majestic Lounge on Sunday, March 13 went well by all accounts. George’s owner Brian Crowne e-mailed these details when I asked about the gathering:

“I can tell you that we raised almost $17,000. I gave it to his brothers, Mickey and Bob, this morning. They were truly overwhelmed by all that our community have done for them and Bruce. I would say over the course of the day and evening we had several thousand people. We plan to make this an annual memorial to raise funds to support the Bruce Walker Memorial Stage at Springfest.”

Though it’s been said many times before, rest in peace, Bruce. You will be remembered.

Another memorial for Bruce will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 20 at Jose’s on Dickson Street in Fayetteville. Musical acts will include Joe Giles and the Homewreckers, Chester P and the Vinyl Kings and Leah and the Mojo Doctors.
