Last week, the cover of the Freekly sported a mostly joking request for good potato soup recipes. Apparently Brad and Brandy Allen have sharp eyes for detail.
The couple was kind enough to e-mail a link to a potato soup recipe that includes bacon. Anyone who knows me knows what I’ll do for a Klondike bar doesn’t compare to the lengths I’ll go to to snag some bacon. The recipe sounds delicious, and I can’t wait to try it.
For the full recipe and instructions, visit allendays.blogspot.com/2010/11/yummy-delicious-potato-bacon-soup.html. But here are the ingredients needed to get you started.
Potato Bacon Soup
8-10 Idaho baking potatoes
1 medium yellow onion
1 package of thick cut Hickory smoked bacon
4 cartons (cups) heavy cream
32 ounces beef broth
extra virgin olive oil
1/2 stick butter
1 cup milk
shredded sharp cheddar cheese
A friend sent me a link to a video that still has me waking up at night and calling for mommy. The unfortunate video features an older couple in church singing an ode to Sarah Palin to the tune of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
It includes lines such as “Sarah Palin, she’ll throw them all in jail, and when she gets to Washington, it’ll be cold as hell” and “She’s not a Harvard lawyer, but she knew what the founders meant.”
If you have the stomach for it, or maybe need a good laugh, look up www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhMepzqJvIw.
