Goodbye, Sid

Sid (Su) Sargent passed away peacefully at her home in Lincoln on Sunday surrounded by her children Rachel and Eugene, her friends and beloved animals, including her famous pet lamb, Lammy.

Sid was a talented artist, philosopher, animal rights activist, gardener, hat maker and Free Weekly cartoonist. She and her son Eugene were instrumental in creating the tone and spirit of the Free Weekly from its inception.

Sid was also an environmentalist and political activist who made two runs for state representative. Recently she dedicated considerable time and energy to stop the government’s mandatory animal ID system and was active in the Ron Paul for presidential campaign.

Sid came to Northwest Arkansas from the east coast after reading about the Headwaters School near Red Star, a progressive school where she wanted her children to be educated.

A celebration of Sid’s life will take place at 2 p.m. Feb. 3 at GoodFolk, 229 N. Block Ave. in Fayetteville.
